Lindrum Supports The Butterfly Foundation

The Butterfly Foundation was established by Claire Middleton in 2002 to aid sufferers of anorexia nervosa.

I proudly support The Butterfly Foundation in their efforts to ‘change lives by providing innovative, evidence-based support services, treatment and resources, delivering prevention and early intervention programs and advocating for he needs of our community.’ www.butterfly.org.au

An excerpt from Lindrum: In the Blood:

‘In my early teens, suffered extreme anxiety. Living life seemed so peculiar.

I had gone from the most travelled youngster of my time; a little girl dressed

impeccably, expected to sit bolt upright on a poof inside Palaces; to a gawky

teenager who looked like Bugs Bunny (I was missing lateral incisors on

my upper jaw). As to how I was going to live up to my family’s incredible

record of achievement, well, I didn’t have the faintest clue. I still don’t.

   Probably never will.’

Anyway, as I sit here, looking at a photograph of a 9-year-old in long white dress with ring of flowers atop her head, my mind travels to 1971 when  a shadow of the former self was admitted to Little Bay Hospital and committed to the care of Dr Susie Owen. I think I was the first diagnosed  case of anorexia nervosa in Australia. Dr Owen wasn’t sure I would pull

through and she told me that it was unlikely I would have children.

This wretched illness takes such a toll on one’s family. It destroyed my marriage and my poor parents were devastated.

Recovery took 15 years later.

Like butterflies we are unique creatures and we have wings that enable us to fly. With help we can go on to enjoy fruitful and productive lives.

The work the Butterfly Foundation is doing to help people fly is remarkable and deserving of support. We live in troubled times when an unhealthy obsession with body image has the potential to rob a person of a large part of their life. We need to try to prevent that occurrence.

Please join with me in supporting the important work of this very special organisation. A percentage of our net revenue will pass to Butterfly to help in the continuance of their good works.
